Happy Earth Day

I made these necklaces out of 6 pack soda rings- sustainable and eco-friendly

The necklaces, available in the clear plastic color are made exclusively by me and come in four styles (from left to right): the Geo, stacked geometric, sculptural pieces, the Salome-stacked loops, the Lyre- made of small loops as well as the Flora-with flower shapes.

The cut plastic is shaped into various forms by cutting and punching holes and then strung together on leather cording and silver chain and accentuated with clear glass crystal beads.

Handmade in the East Village, New York they are lasting jewelry made with durable and recycled materials.
Let me know if you have a favorite style.

Eco-Fashion: Going Green

Costello Tagliapietra dress

On View at The Museum at FIT in New York
May 26 Through November 13, 2010

The current exhibit of eco-fashion at the Museum at FIT
covers some exciting new technologies such as AirDye
(a printing method using heat transfer not water) and includes
fashion from the 18th century to today.

These are some of the categories on display:

  • repurposing and recycling of materials
  • material origins
  • textile dyeing and production
  • quality of craftsmanship s
  • labor practices
  • treatment of animals

Each Costello Tagliapietra dress dyed and printed with AirDye technology will save: 45 gallons of water / 95 megajoules of energy / 3 kilograms of greenhouse gas
