Green Festival Runway Show

As part of the Earth Day celebrations, Astridland participated in the Fashion Fights Poverty
Runway show Sunday at Pier 94.

For the Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, Astridland captures the vibrant spirit of New York City through contradictions: slouchy hoods and luxurious woolen fabrics capture the urban grittiness of city life while clean lines, soft innovative tops and shiny dresses with dolman sleeves evoke a subtle sophistication.

Astridland is 100 % chic  0 % waste

Astridland is committed to sustainability. Producing all garments in the Garment District in New York City, the company incorporates all leftover fabrics into accessories such as gloves, handbags and hair accessories. Both function and aesthetic inform the embellishments of the collection.

Fashion Fights Poverty's mission is to raise awareness for initiatives that encourage and support creative, effective, and sustainable means of challenging poverty. We believe that the industries of fashion, textiles, and design offer unique and effective opportunities for designers, craftsmen and consumers alike to contribute to the alleviation of poverty through trade, skill-building and community empowerment

Bestow & Astridland

In what promises to be a head-turning retail event, 30 prominent alumni of the
Design Entrepreneurs NYC (DENYC) program are coming together to create
an unforgettably chic holiday pop-up boutique that will also benefit New York
Cares and serve as a collection site for their winter coat drive. This diverse
group of New York fashion designers will be offering an expertly curated
mix of unique ready to wear, evening wear, swimwear, jewelry and accessories.
Bestow promises to be the premiere New York City destination for acquiring
truly special gifts, in part because each designer will be making a 10% donation
of all sales to New York Cares. Participants in the DENYC Design Collective
include bustling local brands, such as Sarah Canner of Vespertine, Sunghee Bang,
Anne Pachan of Cala Ossidiana, Melinda Huff of Mirame, Thea Grant of Bazz de Grant,
Sherita of Viscera NY, Angela Gao, Nzinga Knight, Sena Yang
of Sena, Auralis Herrero of Auralistudio, and many more. (Full list below.)
Design Entrepreneurs NYC is a free, executive-level program that gives selected designers
access to top industry executives and provides them with the skills they need to successfully
run a fashion or accessories label.
A partnership between the Fashion Institute of Technology and the New York City Economic
Development Corporation
, DENYC is committed to New York City’s fashion industry
and supporting these talented designers.

New York real estate company Stonehenge Partners is a prominent sponsor of Bestow,
helping the DENYC Collective secure the expansive retail space in the heart of the city at
15thStreet and 6th Avenue. Marketing Manager Lesley Schultz explains why Stongehenge
decided to become involved:
“As the owner and manager of real estate properties in Manhattan, it is our responsibility to showcase the talents of local artists and designers, who keep this city a true epicenter of culture and trendsetting style. We are thrilled to be able to offer a piece of our available commercial space to The DENYC and New York Cares to bring together creativity, celebration, and philanthropy, and even prouder to have the physical space to cook up something so exciting during this very special season in New York City.”
